How Bondd collects, uses, and protects your information.
Bondd ("Bondd", "we", "us", or "our") operates a humans-only talent platform connecting verified tech talent with employers. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. By using Bondd, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
We process personal information in accordance with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, where applicable to users in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The information we collect depends on whether you're using Bondd as talent or as an employer.

To maintain a humans-only platform, Bondd uses Smile ID to verify government-issued identification and biometric data. Smile ID processes this information under its own privacy policy and acts as a data processor on Bondd's behalf. Verification results (pass/fail and associated score points) are shared with Bondd; underlying ID documents are retained only as required for compliance and fraud-prevention purposes.
If you connect your LinkedIn or GitHub account, Bondd accesses limited profile and activity data via each platform's official API, under the permissions you grant at the time of connection. You can disconnect these integrations at any time from your profile settings.

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time, subject to records we are legally required to retain (such as verification and transaction records).

How Bondd meets its obligations under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act.
The Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) is South Africa's data protection law. It sets minimum requirements for how organisations may lawfully collect, use, store, and share the personal information of individuals ("data subjects"), and establishes the rights individuals have over their own information.
This page explains how Bondd applies POPIA's requirements specifically. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which covers our data practices more broadly, including for users outside South Africa.
For the purposes of POPIA, Bondd is the "responsible party" for personal information collected through the platform. Where we use third-party processors - such as Smile ID for identity verification, or payment and escrow providers - those parties act as "operators" processing information on our instruction and under written confidentiality and security obligations.
POPIA requires that personal information be processed in line with eight conditions. Here's how Bondd applies each one:
POPIA places extra restrictions on "special personal information" - including biometric information. Bondd's identity verification process collects biometric data (via Smile ID) solely to confirm you are a real, unique individual as part of our humans-only verification model. This processing is necessary for the conclusion and performance of our agreement with you, and is limited to verification and fraud-prevention purposes.

Because Bondd connects talent and employers across Africa and globally, personal information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than South Africa - including by hosting and verification providers. Where this occurs, we ensure the receiving party is subject to a law, binding corporate rules, or agreement that provides an adequate level of protection substantially similar to POPIA, or that you have consented to the transfer.

The terms that govern your use of Bondd.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Bondd's website, applications, and services (together, the "Platform"), operated by Bondd ("Bondd", "we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the Platform.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use Bondd. Bondd is a humans-only platform: every account must be associated with a real individual who completes our identity verification process. Accounts created using false identities, synthetic profiles, automated bots, or AI-generated content are prohibited and will be removed.
Employer accounts must be created by an individual with authority to act on behalf of the company they represent.
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Information you provide - including for identity verification, CV/work history, and connected accounts (LinkedIn, GitHub) - must be accurate and kept up to date.
Your Bondd verification score is calculated based on the verification checks you complete (such as ID/KYC, CV parsing, connected accounts, and skills assessments). The score is provided for discovery and matching purposes only. Bondd does not guarantee employment, projects, placements, or any particular outcome as a result of your score, and may adjust scoring methodology at any time.
Creating a profile and using core discovery features is free for talent ("Talent Plan"). By creating a talent profile, you consent to your profile - including your verification score, skills, and work history - being visible to employers using the Platform, in line with our Privacy Policy.
Employer accounts may access talent search, job posting, and related features under a paid subscription ("Employer Plan"), billed monthly at the rate displayed at the time of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we do not provide refunds for partial periods.
Bondd's freelance marketplace allows employers to post projects and talent to apply for and complete them, with payments protected through escrow. By using the freelance marketplace, you agree that:
Employers may engage Bondd's placement service to source candidates for permanent roles, subject to a placement fee calculated as a percentage of the placed candidate's annual cost-to-company (CTC), at the rate corresponding to the selected service tier (Standard, Senior, or Retained) as described on our pricing page. Placement fees are invoiced on the candidate's confirmed start date and are subject to the replacement guarantee terms applicable to the relevant tier, as communicated at the time of engagement.
You agree not to:
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice, depending on the severity of the violation.
The Platform, including its design, branding, software, and content created by Bondd, is owned by Bondd and protected by intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of content you submit (such as your CV, portfolio, or project descriptions), but grant Bondd a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use, display, and process that content as needed to operate the Platform - for example, showing your profile to employers.
The Platform integrates with third-party services, including Smile ID (identity verification), LinkedIn and GitHub (connected accounts), and payment/escrow processors. Your use of these integrations is also subject to the relevant third party's own terms and privacy policies. Bondd is not responsible for the availability or practices of third-party services.
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available". Bondd makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy of verification results, the suitability of candidates or roles, or that the Platform will be uninterrupted or error-free. Verification checks reduce, but do not eliminate, the risk of inaccurate information being presented on a profile.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bondd will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Platform. Bondd's total liability for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the amount of fees you paid to Bondd in the 12 months preceding the claim, or ZAR 1,000 if no fees were paid.
You agree to indemnify and hold Bondd harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Platform, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
You may close your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform if you breach these Terms, or where required by law. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 9, 11, 12, and 13) will continue to apply.
These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have in your country of residence.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the Platform before they take effect. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
